Derived from an original painting, this limited edition giclee print has been hand embellished with copper leaf. In a series of 10, with 2 artist proofs, each piece is hand finished and therefore unique.
Copper leaf has been placed on her feet and trunk, those powerful features that have been exploited by humanity as a work tool. Though she holds sadness in her eyes, she moves forward steadfastly into the future. Step by step, towards hope.
As I painted this elephant I felt a sense of her on a long journey. Patient, courageous, uncomplaining, drawing from a deep reservoir of inner strength. She symbolises for me the perseverance of continuing to put one foot in front of another.
Inspired by the mama elephant at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, the original was donated to the Zoo to raise funds for their animal conservation programs.
